A couple of holes in the ground under the West Coast Main Line near Meadowbank on the banks of the Weaver in Cheshire.Two for the price of one!
First, the uphill end of the tunnel under the WCML itself.
And the downhill end under the disused branch (now a caravan park and access)
The tunnels allow access for an unmetalled road between Bradford Road, Meadowbank and Niddries Lane, Moulton. Despite its present rural atmosphere, the banks of the Weaver were thronged with salt works around a century or more ago. A swing bridge remains, carrying this road over the river, and the local deep salt mine is nearby.
