Breaking news in Denmark.

It has been discovered in Denmark that mink can catch Covid 19. When they catch it, it can mutate into a different type of covid. This would mean that the vaccine currently being tested would not work against another strain of Covid.

It has been decided that all the mink farms in Denmark will stop operating. This will mean the destruction of between 15-17 million mink. The destruction will be carried out as quickly as possible.

The ramifications of this discovery could be huge.

They may well do. It was first thought that thd seagulls that gather round the mink farms were spreading it. If the birds get it we have a bigger problem.

This is going to keep on happening as we push deeper into rainforests etc. and especially if countries like China keep those damn 'wet markets' open. It really is about time that those were shut down permanently everywhere.

The one good thing to come out of the crisis is that scientists are coming up with some amazing new technologies/techniques to develop vaccines quickly. The day might come when they can develop a new one in a few months. Mind you, that wouldn't help humanity if something emerges as sneaky and infectious as coronavirus but as deadly as smallpox or ebola!

Cats can catch coronaviruses. That's cat flu to you and me. But that's part of the annual cat vaccination, along with enteritis, herpes, calici and FeLV.

It makes perfect sense that the more that people and animals get crammed together on the planet, the more chances there are for nasties to leap across from one species to another. We are probably pretty safe with cats and dogs because we have been in close contact for millennia. Pangolins though...?

My big surprise reading this is that mink farming is still big business. Does anyone still wear mink coats? What other uses are there for them?
Minkburgers?
